The Speleotechnics Nova design uses a single power LED of either 3W or 5W, mounted on a disc of aluminium to dissipate the heat. It is fitted with an acrylic refractor with a beam angle of approximately 10 degrees. The electronics driving the LED allow multiple levels of brightness, and cause the light to flicker when the battery is depleted. The LED, optic, and electronics are potted for protection. The Nova uses the standard FX Headlite battery in both Ni-MH and Li-Ion technologies.
